How to write an essay in English examination

Today, we will continue with tips to write an essay in English. Actually, its kind of similar to essay in Malay. You just have to translate it. That is why it is easy when you are writing two essays in one hour. This should not be a problem. Lets have a look... oh, by the way, this tips should be good enough for you to use it in SPM, STPM, MUET and PTD (since I have already been through this).

Introduction:

Generally, ...(issue)...means ...(giving a general definition like we understand). We have always heard about this issue....(issue)...in the newspaper/the media/the radio. Sometimes, the story is being highlighted until ....(the community/I/the parents/etc) felt....(feelings). The ....(figure/leader)...also mentioned about this issue in ....(any function that is suitable with the mentioned issue). He/she said... Thus, we have to find the ....(solution/factor/impact)...so that...(hope).

Example:

Generally, Facebook is a medium of social network interaction between two or more people in a virtual space. Lately, we have always heard about the negative impacts of Facebook on our society in the newspaper. Sometimes, the story is being highlighted until some of the parents felt worried when their children was so absorb with Facebook. Our Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak had also mentioned about this issue when he came to the opening ceremony of 1Malaysia E-Portal (the examiner will never checked whether this ceremony was being held or not~ so just be creative and logic :P) in Putrajaya. He has given an advice to the youngster that Facebook can bring good and harm at the same time depends on the way we are using it. Thus, we have to find the solution on how to use Facebook wisely so that  it will bring good impact to us.

Writing in English could be so tough to some of you if you are having a problem with grammar. Nevertheless, try to find simple words to build a sentence. English is not like Malay, the simple the better. My advice, if you have children or niece or nephew, try to make sure they have settled English grammar since in primary school. My process in settling English grammar in primary school was so tough yet it is unregrettable because it gets me to where I am now though I came from the rural areas. Thank you Teacher Rahmah.

Next, we will move on to content.

Content:

One of the...(solutions/factors/impacts)...is...(idea). (Elaboration of idea-2/3 sentences). (Example). (Affirmation of the idea).

Example:

One of the solution on how to use Facebook wisely is by setting your main intention in using Facebook. By setting your main intention, you will be less likely to waste your time on anything that does not concern with your focus. For example, if you use Facebook mainly to interact with your friends, you will be unlikely to approve any unknown person as friends except if your main intention is to find new friends. Same goes if you use Facebook just to keep you update with current issues, you will not waste your time playing online game. Thus, setting your main intention will keep you focus and one of the best solution to use Facebook wisely.

You can also put either factors or impacts (because the paragraph discuss abut solution) to elaborate your content idea.

Conclusion:

As a conclusion/In a nutshell/To conclude....(mention all the content ideas) are ....(solutions/impacts/factors). (your hope). (figures's/leader's hope). (Idioms).

Example:

As a conclusion, setting your main intention in using Facebook, put time limitation to use Facebook, and set the rules are good solutions in making sure the youngster know how to use Facebook wisely. If we follow the solutions, it will be our big hope that Facebook can become useful tools instead of a place where a bunch of useless youngster kill their time. Other than sharing ideas or create bonding, many positive impacts will follow  if we know how to make use of technology, said Mark Zuckenberg when the reporters asked him about his intention in creating Facebook for Gen Y. Thus, all good and bad things come not by coincidental unless we asked for it like (I cant think of an idioms here)~

So, that's all for today.
